Le Geste D’Or – Label Toitsur awarded

Each year, the independent association Le Geste D’Or organises a competition to reward the know-how of teams of project owners, project managers and contractors.

LE GESTE D’OR: more than just an award

Le Geste D’Or academy brings together different Colleges, trades, associations and experts in order to raise awareness of all trades, current operations and inventions in all fields through the awards it gives out each year, thanks to tools: courses and conferences, books, websites and films, designed to spread open-mindedness in the spirit of “Le Geste d’Or”.

Its main objective is to identify and explore the educational value of projects.

The annual competition is open to teams of developers, project managers and owners. French and international projects in the fields of built heritage, urban planning and landscape, past, present and future, are eligible.

At the end of 2022, the roofers of Label Toitsur won Le Geste D’Or for the renovation of the roof of the former Marguerite de Flandres hospital in Seclin, in the Nord Picardie region.

A 30,000 hour project with 250,000 K08 slates for a building with 800 years of hospital history. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Sylvain Hoarau and his team for this fine work and to thank them sincerely for their trust. We would also like to acknowledge the commercial work of Cada and Asturienne Wattrelos and their efforts and involvement in this project.

RESIDENCE MARGUERITE DE FLANDRES

Brief history:

The Residence Marguerite de Flandres is located in the former Hôpital Notre-Dame, a building that has been protected as a national monument since 1932.

The history of this hospital dates back to the 13th century, with the Countess of Flanders, Margaret of Constantinople (1202 – 1280). Daughter of Baldwin IX, Count of Flanders and Latin Emperor of the East. She inherited Flanders and Hainaut from her sister Jeanne (1244). She marries Bouchard d’Avesnes (1223) and William II of Dampierre. As she intended to leave her domains to the children of her second marriage, King Louis XI (Saint Louis) of France transferred Flanders to the Dampierres and Hainaut to the Avesnes (1256).

The town of Seclin already had a hospital under the protection of Saint Nicolas. In 1246, M

argaret of Constantinople donated a manor house with adjoining land and meadows to found a hospital for pilgrims and the poor. In the following years, a community of Augustinian nuns settled in the foundation.
After more than seven centuries of presence in the hospital, the last nuns left in April 2013.

The works:

The hospital was now disused. Its rehabilitation and transformation were designed by the team of architect Hubert Maes. The Marguerite de Flandres residence is composed of 93 independent dwellings in the old buildings and a hundred or so modern dwellings in a contemporary extension that respects the character of the hospital.
